About the Blog

What this blog is about..
This blog is dedicated towards making sense out of an increasingly mad online jungle of news sites, blogs, tweets, facebook posts etc. and helping any discerning reader who wants to do the same. It's all about recommending to our readers in Sri Lanka (or anywhere else, for that matter), what we see as the most informative, factual and accurate sources of information from among various sources of digital media (web pages, tweets, blog etc.), on different topics.

Who are we..
We are simply group of readers (engineers, critical thinkers & analysts) of news articles, blogs, tweets & so on, who discuss and argue (in a friendly manner, for the most part) about the accuracy, validity and value of what we read, on a Whatsapp group. Since we anyway spend a good part of the day doing this AND  generally succeed in filtering out the crap AND because we think this is actually needed, we thought of sharing the good stuff with everyone else.

Why we think this is necessary..
The internet is readily accessible these days and information is widely shared. Comment is free and almost anyone can share their thoughts and opinions on mulitple platforms. This was supposed to be a good thing where most people could make themselves more knowledgable and improve society in general.

However, quite the opposite has happened. Extremist, misguided and ignorant views are being propagated & reinforced rather than weakened. There is more fake news than actual news. Self-declared experts are advising others on every subject imaginable, with implications that can range from the comical to the outright catastrophic. We in Sri Lanka have had enough experiences in recent times.

Therefore, we thought it would be a good idea to point people at the right source and make a genuine attempt to stamp out fake news.

How it works..
We will publish posts on this blog, categorized by topics (e.g. Coronavirus) from various sources. The links could be for internet pages, blogs, tweets or any other digital media in the public domain.

Our Principles:
  1. Politically unbiased: This is NOT a political blog. We will not be sharing any content that will endorse or criticize a political party or person. We will focus on selected topics in a purely objective manner.
  2. Factual accuracy: We will put in our maximum effort to validate the accuracy of all the content that we share, with muliple sources. We will share content that we think are accurate to the best of our knowledge
  3. Relevance and value: We will focus on content that are timely, relevant and informative for the reader. Content that is actually worth taking time out to read.

Disclaimer:
While we try to filter out all fake information, we cannot take responsibility in any way for any third party content that may get published.
